Overview
Surah Ali 'Imran is the third chapter of the Quran with 200 verses. It was revealed in Madinah and takes its name from the family of Imran — the father of Maryam (Mary), the mother of Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him).
Themes
The surah addresses theological discussions with the People of the Book (Christians and Jews), affirms the Oneness of Allah (Tawheed), tells the story of Maryam and Prophet Isa, discusses the Battle of Uhud and its lessons, and emphasizes steadfastness in faith. It contains powerful verses about patience, reliance on Allah, and the impermanence of worldly life.
Significance
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Recite the two bright ones: Al-Baqarah and Ali 'Imran, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection as two clouds or two shades shading their companion" (Sahih Muslim 804).
